"I am announcing my candidacy for mayor of Thayer where I was raised and have been privileged to work and serve. I'm the daughter of the late Waymond Caldwell and Nora Crawford Caldwell. I have two daughters, Robyn Richter and Andrea Richter (THS Class of 1986). I retired from the Thayer R2 School System where I taught junior high school science for 20+ years. As a teacher I have experienced the growth and development of future citizens of Thayer. I am experienced in public financing and development because I successfully helped write grants, professional development plans and curriculum. I am a trustee of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and belong to Tuesday Book Club, The Historical Society and Thayer Garden Club. In addition I am an avid Bobcat fan and attend almost all home and away games.
"I am excited about the opportunities to promote and enhance our community by writing grants to make improvements, create jobs by filling the empty factory building, and clean up abandoned properties. I am a team player and have great respect for the loyal and hardworking city employees and want to give them new tools to make our community better. We need a strong police and fire department for our citizens to keep us safe and our insurance rates down. We need to learn together how to meet the challenges of an economic downturn and repair or replace our deteriorating infrastructure of sewers, water and electrical components. We have never needed grants and funding more.
"I applaud and fully support the Senior Citizens Center and their efforts to help our homebound. Our working people need to have alternative places to walk, live and shop. Our children need a strong community that is safe and nurturing. We need to keep improving the city pool, arena, walking trails and parks and create new opportunities for health and wellness.
"I believe I can make a positive contributions to Thayer and will work hard to accomplish what our community wants and needs. I look forward to ideas and discussions."

Related to this article, I am interested to know if non-registered voters are still eligible to register in time to vote for the Thayer municipal elections? If so, by what date? Where? Requirements, etc.? What about absentee ballots?
These are questions that others have been asking and there are varying answers. SMN would be helping the community by providing answers to these questions.
Thank You.
