Despite a strong chance of rain, hundreds of spectators and nearly 140 show cars came out for the 38th annual Antique and Classic Car Show at Mammoth Spring State Park. This annual event is coordinated by the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce and hosted by Mammoth Spring State Park. This year marked the second largest show in the events history, only bested by last year’s record of 167 show cars. “Despite the forecast, event coordinators took a risk and went forward with the event. Rescheduling such a large event presents a lot of problems. It is hard to get the word out to everyone, especially with such short notice. And then if you push it back to another date, you have the issue of conflicting events. In the end we just thought it was the best decision to have the event as planned. We were still worried even a couple hours before the event, but we got a break and the weather turned out perfect. We had lots of people come up and say this was the best car show they had ever attended. I think we owe all the credit to our great team of volunteers, led by Chamber President Trena Spears. Between park staff and volunteers, we had around 18 people working the event. We also had some great at sponsors this year and it allowed us to expand the show. For the first time ever, we had a live band, Highway W. They really put on a great show and even permitted us to use their equipment to present our awards. Speaking of awards, we handed out the most trophies, plaques and custom awards ever. With nearly 60 participants taking something home. We also need to give a special shout out to our judges, Marshall Taylor and Bobby Bair, who put in a long day. We have a lot to be thankful for this year and look forward to an even bigger event in 2023,” said Adam Davis with Mammoth Spring State Park. Photo/Renee Janes
