Charles Homer Looney, “Rock”

Charles Homer Looney, “Rock” 76, of Lubec, ME, passed away on August 30, 2022 after a very brief battle with rapidly invasive, inoperable cancer. Charles was born on August 19, 1946 to Manual Corwin and Ruby Marie Murrell-Looney in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He graduated from Thayer High School in 1964. After joining the United States Air Force, Charles spent two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he was twice wounded, and awarded 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze star for his actions and courage in the field of combat. After his combat tours he was reassigned as a power plant engineer to Taipei Taiwan. Once his enlistment time was over, he was hired as a civilian and returned back to Taiwan in his same position. He met and married television and film actress Tammy Quan.The couple moved to Hong Kong where Charles had taken a position with Cathay Pacific Airlines. While working as the Director of ground services, Charles got his commercial pilots license and sat in the right seat on a regular flight schedule. After a thirteen year stint in the orient, he divorced wife Tammy, and returned to the United States for a position as the regional (orient) sales representative for FMC Corporation in San Jose, CA. where he met and married Coral Coolahan. After the company moved to Orlando, FL, Chuck was hired to manage a personal plane and the couple moved to the Bahamas. He returned to the states to become a sales rep for A.J Walard Co. where he sold a plane to the Sacramento Kings basketball team. The Kings organization hired Chuck to manage the plane for them for a couple of seasons. He saw another opportunity and landed in Kingman, AZ where he was President/General manager for Airmotive which stored, sold and restored used airplanes and airplane parts. He divorced Coral and moved on to Clearwater, FL where he met and married Cecilia Nevel. Chuck was hired to manage the private jet for a British businessman and spent several years chasing that plane around Europe, the U.S. and South America. After retiring, Charles spent his time taking care of his wife, looking after the rescued pit bull dog, tinkering around with some old jeeps and enjoying evenings with great neighbors and friends who became “Marine Street Boys” setting around the back deck and pool, in Clearwater, FL, sipping whiskey, smoking a cigar and reliving stories about life and his travels. Chuck, wife Cece and dog Jet, moved to Lubec, Maine in December 2021. He enjoyed the beauty of the area and the kindness the people showed him in the short time he lived there. Charles had no children of his own but considered Patrick Meyer and wife, Natasha Grenier as his “adopted son and daughter.” The family of Charles, (Chuck) Looney would like to thank Patrick, Natasha and those who cared for him at the hospital and comfort care facility during his illness and death. Charles was predeceased in death by his father, M.C. and his mother Ruby Looney. He is survived by his wife Cecilia Nevel of Lubec, ME, oldest brother James Looney and wife Jean Ann Looney of West Plains, MO. One sister Anna Mae Burkhead and husband John Burkhead of West Plains, MO. One niece Sarah Jo Whittle and husband Dr. Neal Whittle of Tahlequah, OK and youngest brother Steven W. Looney of Thayer, MO. The urn with Charles ashes, will be placed under a ship’s anchor that belonged to his wife’s father, and sets at a spot overlooking the water in Lubec, ME.
