Richard Glen Risner

Richard Glen Risner of West Plains, Missouri, passed from this life on August 22, 2022. Richard was born near Wirth, Arkansas, on August 6, 1937, and died in West Plains, Missouri, on August 22, 2022, at the age of 85 years and 16 days. His wife, Naomi Joyce Orr Risner, originally of Alton, Missouri, passed away on December 3, 2016.

Richard was the son of Everett and Oma Hall Risner and grew up in West Randolph County, Arkansas. He attended and graduated from Couch High School in 1954. Joyce graduated from Alton High School in 1956 and was married to Richard on September 22, 1956. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in September, 2016.

Richard was an Army Veteran, having done his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The remaining time in the Army was spent in Fort Riley, Kansas.

Richard and Joyce lived in St. Louis, Missouri, for many years. Richard spent much of his career as a Service Writer for Cadillac Dealers in the Greater St. Louis area. He was known for his integrity in dealing honestly with his customers. When they retired, they moved to West Plains, Missouri, and built a new home.

Richard loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, golfing, working at his farm and in the yard, and just driving around looking at the countryside. He and Joyce spent countless hours and miles driving around the Ozarks enjoying natures beauties and looking for wildlife. Richard never met a stranger, was always willing to lend a hand, and was liked by all. After Joyce’s passing, he spent many mornings with the breakfast crew at Jimmy’s or Ozarks Café, followed by an occasional game of pool at the WP Senior Center, and made regular stops at Bunch Equipment for an afternoon visit. He was an active member of the Curry Street Church of Christ.

Richard is survived by one brother, Lester Risner of Collierville, TN. Seven nieces and nephews; Paul Honeycutt of Edmond, OK; Jana Honeycutt Frei of Ft. Collins, CO; Stan Utley of Scottsdale, AZ; John Utley of Columbia, MO; Cheryl Risner Howard of Collierville, TN; Melinda Risner Tyler of Brentwood, TN; and Robin Orr Johnson of West Monroe, Louisiana. Also, brotherin law and sister-in-law Bud and June Orr of Florissant, MO. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and their husbands, Ruby and Frank Utley and Ruth and Berry Honeycutt, and sister-in-law Peggy Risner.

At this time no services are scheduled. The family will have a celebration of life and memorial gathering in honor of both Richard and Joyce at a date TBD.
