Robert “Glenn” Crase Sr.
Robert “Glenn” Crase Sr. of Thayer, Mo. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Thayer, Mo. on Sept. 17, 2022, at the age of 89 years. He was born on Feb. 13, 1933, in Couch, Mo. to Lawrence and Calma (Sandridge) Crase. He graduated from Couch High school in 1951. After graduating he joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War with the rank of a Seaman.
He spent his active duty enlistment as a gunner’s mate on the ship USS LST 901. He served active duty from 1952 to 1955 and was in the Naval Reserves until 1960. After leaving the Navy he met the love of his life in St. Louis, Mo., Marcella Fay Shy, and they were united in marriage on July 21, 1963, in Pryor, Okla. Of this union they had four children.
After Glenn and Marcella married, they lived in St. Charles, Mo. and Thayer, Mo. and finally settling down full-time in Thayer, in 1984.
Glenn worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad (MOP) for several years. After leaving MOP he wheeled and dealed in used cars and other businesses. He enjoyed listening to the Thayer Bobcats Football games on the radio on Friday nights and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
However, his favorite thing in life was spending time with his family. He coached all his kids in baseball, softball and basketball. After coaching he played on an upper league softball team with his sons, Mark and Brad. He finally retired from playing when he was 70 years old. Even though he wasn’t playing in the league anymore, that didn’t stop him from playing catch for hours in the yard or participating in a heated game of backyard wiffle ball. When he wasn’t playing ball with the family, he enjoyed watching, cheering, and giving them pointers.
He never missed a game or an event. He also spent countless hours riding horses with Stephanie and later teaching the grandkids how to ride. Glenn also enjoyed feeding and watching his backyard deer.
Glenn will be remembered as a devout Christian man that loved his family.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marcella Fay (Shy) Crase, three sons, Bob (Linda) Crase, Thayer, Mo., Mark (Rachel) Crase, Edgemont, South Dakota, and Brad (Wendy) Crase, West Plains, Mo. and one daughter Stephanie (Freeman) Davis, Mammoth Spring, Ark.
