Jurval Neal “Jack” Batterton, 89, of Viola, Ark., passed away from this life on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at Salem, Ark. Jack was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Moko, Ark. to Loyd Rennie Batterton and Beulah Arenda (Emery) Batterton.

Jack married Peggy Jean McNair on Sept. 1, 1951, in Mountain Home, Ark., and to this union three children were born. Jack worked in custodial and maintenance for many years. Jack played music for 80 years and playing the fiddle was his favorite. Jack did wood carvings and could fix just about anything. Jack loved his family and was of the Christian faith. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.

Jack leaves to mourn his passing, son, Terry Batterton (Tammy) of Viola, Ark.; daughter, Jurlene Richmond (Ronny) of Viola, Ark.; five grandchildren, Dustin Richmond (Donia), Misha Rains (Lucas), Tanner Batterton (Liz), Kaleigh Batterton, and Avery Batterton; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Batterton of Viola, Ark. and Hoppy Batterton of Viola, Ark.; two sisters, Janette Schlie (Gary) of Independence, Mo. and Pam Burns (Larry) of Viola, Ark.; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, son (JoJo Batterton), parents, three sisters (Wilma Dean Brown, Wanda “Blondie” Guffey, and Sue Billings), and two brothers (Smokey Batterton and Jewell Batterton).

Funeral services were 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Ark. with Bro. John Hodges and Bro. Craig Golden officiating. Visitation was 1-2 p.m., Tuesday Jan. 3, 2023, at Barker Funeral Home. The interment was in the Camp Cemetery in Camp, Ark. Pallbearers were Mike Batterton, Shawn Batterton, Scott Batterton, Kelly Batterton, Clay Guffey and Danny Guffey. Honorary pallbearers were Tanner Batterton, Kaylor Batterton, Lucas Rains, Cainan Rains and Campbell Rains. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
