The Alton Fire Department responded to a fire half a mile from Bailey Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 10 that was caused by a power line spark. In a Facebook post, the department stated, “This is how dangerous it is. This shows us exactly how little of a spark can ignite in these conditions. Thankful for the quick response they was able to contain fairly quickly!” They urge people to not burn anything. “Accidents happen, but right now setting brush piles on fire, burning trash, even if it’s in a barrel, is so dangerous. Remain vigilant. Burn ban will stay in effect for quite a while with no rain in sight,” was further stated.
