Billy Dean Barnes

Billy Dean Barnes, of Franklin, Ark., son of the late Olen and Nola Floyd Barnes, was born Dec. 8, 1942, in Violet Hill, Ark. He died March 22, 2023, at Eaglecrest Nursing Center in Highland, Ark. at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 14 days. Bill attended Violet Hill High School and was the Valedictorian of his 1960 graduating class. He attended and graduated with a degree in Business Management from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. He received the prestigious R. E. Wilson Award in 1964. He was united in marriage to Brenda Dillard and together they raised two children. Bill taught high school for nine years and then he and his brother Bob started B & B Supply. They operated three hardware and lumber yards. They were in business 45 years before retiring in 2019. Bill was a founding member of First Baptist Church in Horseshoe Bend. He served the church faithfully until his health began to fail. Bill and Brenda loved to travel and had been to all the U. S. states and Canadian Provinces, with the Western Canadian Rockies being their favorite.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Brenda Dillard Barnes of the home; one daughter: Cathy Barnes of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; one son: Jeffrey D. Barnes of Dallas, Texas; one brother: Bob Barnes and wife Tina of Ocala, Fla.; one nephew: Brett Barnes and wife Mandy of Spokane, Wash. and their sons: Blake and John Bradley and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation and funeral service was Saturday, March 25 at Horseshoe Bend First Baptist Church with Brother Eric Ertle and Brother Doyne Robertson officiating. Visitation was at 10 a.m. Funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. Burial followed at Violet Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Taylor, Melvin Shoemate, Donnie Smith, Leroy Brink, Mark Wakeham and Dave Pedano.
