Members of Strawberry River Chapter, DAR are strong supporters of education which is one of the three objectives of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Each year we present a chapter scholarship to a graduating senior in the tricounty area.
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 695 of West Plains will meet Tuesday, June 27 at 12 noon at the Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant, 1449 Preacher Roe Blvd. Doyle Fink will present the program, “Minerals in the States of Missouri and Arkansas.” All active and retired federal employees and spouses are invited to attend.
Central Methodist University celebrated its Spring 2023 commencement on May 13 in Puckett Fieldhouse on the Fayette campus. Former board of trustees chairman Robert Courtney gave the commencement address as a packed house of family, friends, faculty, staff, and other guests celebrated the graduates. Students were recognized for earning degrees at the master’s, bachelor’s, and associate’s levels.
The office of Central Methodist University Provost Rita Gulstad announced recently the students included on the Spring 2023 Dean’s List. Almost 900 students across all campuses and online learning met the requirements for placement, including a grade point average of 3.50 or higher for the semester.
Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) has been awarded a $437,000 grant from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) to expand the Terry L. “Bo” Pace Advanced Welding and Fabrication Technology Program.
Emily Nix of West Plains graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science (legal studies track) and psychology from Buena Vista University in Spring 2023. Nix was among more than 300 students who received degrees.
Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) will offer its annual Summer Scholars Academy July 17-20. The academy is for students entering fifth grade through those who have just completed eighth grade, organizers said. It will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon each day.
