William Cole, Thornfield

William Cole, Thornfield, is the first student accepted into Missouri State University-West Plains’ (MSU-WP) new AS- CEND Program. The ASCEND (Autism Support Can Empower New Directions) Program is designed to help area students with autism transition into college and toward a life of personal success and independence. The program, which is the first of its kind in this region, offers specialized support services to students so they can successfully navigate a traditional college path and reach personally chosen goals. In a video sent to ASCEND officials, Cole said he applied for the program because he always wanted to go to college, and the program would give him the support he needed to complete his degree. Applications for the program are still being accepted. Visit WP.MissouriState.edu/ASCEND for more information and how to apply. (Photo provided)
