The Primary Election was held on Tuesday, Aug. 2 with total ballots counted of 2,023 out of 7,134 registered voters in Oregon County.
In a carry-over from its July meeting, the Fulton County Quorum Court made a vote on whether or not to stay in contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in regard to Boggy Point.
Now that the primary and runoffs are in the distant past, it is time to look ahead to the general election for local candidates for towns in Fulton County. According to Fulton County Clerk Vickie Bishop, the following are up for election in Salem and Viola.

On Friday, Aug. 5, a ribbon cutting was held to celebrate the recent remodel of Walmart in Thayer. Beginning in May, the store received new flooring followed by other upgrades including the installation of self-checkout registers. The store initially opened 37 years ago in 1985.
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture and Farm Credit Associations of Arkansas are partnering to provide a $1,000 Homegrown by Heroes scholarship to military veterans and active military personnel to attend the Center for Arkansas Farm and Food’s Farm School, a comprehensive training program for new or beginning specialty crop producers. PRESS RELEASE The Alton Bank has donated $10,000 to the Ozarks Healthcare Foundation’s fundraising initiative for a mobile mammography unit. The funds will be used to help with costs associated with the purchase of a mobile mammography unit to help make routine breast cancer screenings more accessible for women across the Ozarks.
