Letter to the Editor:

It was nice to read that our state government was allocating funds for training and development of people in our state. It sounded like this Republican controlled state government was in favor of the American Recovery Plan Act (HR 1316). A reader of an article entitled “$12.56 M in state Workforce Training Grants to benefit the region” would not learn that not a single Republican in the US House nor Senate voted for the bill. This is another example of misleading messaging by Republican elected officials. This it wasn't a lie but an example of misleading by omission. Another Republican trying to mislead his constituents is Congressperson Jason Smith. He accuses the “Washington Democrats” of throwing “...trillions of taxpayer dollars down the drain to reward the wealthy and score political points with the radical left, all at the expense of workingclass Americans.” Not even Governor Parsons believes that. If you are going to vote in your self-interest then you should consider voting for Democratic candidates, unless you are part of the wealthiest top 10%.

Ending the Political Pandemic

For just over two years, President Joe Biden has used a permanent pandemic narrative to increase command and control over the lives and livelihoods of everyday Americans. Every 90 days – just like clockwork – he has redeclared the pandemic an ongoing public health emergency, including twice since last fall when he had already declared the pandemic over!

Fighting Back Against Biden’s War on American Energy

Under President Joe Biden’s leadership, Americans never seem to get a break from the spiraling prices they face. Now, they are beginning to see the price for gasoline rising higher and higher – again. This is troubling news for working-class families who are struggling just to put food on the table, clothes on their backs, and gasoline in their cars because of the cost-of-living crisis, which Washington Democrats created with their reckless, $10 trillion spending spree. And it was entirely predictable because of the way Biden played politics with our Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). Among the most mindboggling parts of Biden’s disastrous climate agenda was his decision to drain the SPR. He’s sold off an unprecedented 250 million barrels of oil, or more than 40% of the stockpile – and interestingly, most of it was sold before last November. The SPR was created to help America get through a severe energy crisis. But thanks to Biden, the SPR is at its lowest level since 1983. Adding insult to injury, a significant amount of the oil he’s drained from the SPR was sold to China. It’s outrageous, and absolutely unacceptable!

Standing for Life

January 22 marks the 50th anniversary since the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade. This somber anniversary provides so many Missourians the opportunity to rededicate ourselves to fighting for the unborn. 2022 was a momentous year for those of us who believe life is a precious miracle from God.

Letter to the Editor

In a recent “Capitol Report” Jason Smith accuses the “Washington Democrats” of throwing “trillions of taxpayer dollars down the drain to reward the wealthy and score political points with the radical left, all at the expense of working-class Americans.” I assume he is referring to the Biden administration’s “American Rescue Plan.” The Roosevelt Institute describes the ARP as “The most important story—the one that Americans should hear, and progressive policymakers should tell—is that, as a result of our policy choices, our economic system has created millions of jobs, raised wages for those too often left behind, created real economic security for millions of Americans, and increased the power of workers to secure a better deal for themselves and their families.”

Putting Working-Class Families First

Ever since I was elected to public office, fighting for the working-class folks of Missouri has always been my top priority. Unlike many of my colleagues here in Washington, I grew up in a working-class family; my mom worked at a factory and my dad was a mechanic and preacher. The values I learned growing up will always guide the decisions I make in Washington.
